Is Tap Water Causing Your Acne?

Actually my skin condition was getting much better last month, but suddenly I was breaking out like crazy since 2 weeks ago and I was wondering why! You know, I did not change my skincare routine and I did not try any new beauty products at the time, so it was totally strange. And after I did some research LOL, I found out this surprising truth.. yes TAP WATER is the main cause to my breakout since I have sensitive skin! What?!?
Yeah I know this is something you may not have thought of before, right?

Actually I heard that East Surabaya have an issue with the quality of water (turbidity) since last week, while I lived in West Surabaya and I did not notice any difference in my water so I think there was no problem, until I decided to filter my water..
Oh by the way, I did not have a water filter, so now I am going to share a super-cheap alternative way to filter your water because you only need a thin spongy foam sheet, umm okay I am not sure what is this called exactly LOL. But if you can not find this kind of sheet, then just use a sock! But at least get a new one, okay? xD

So just cut the thin spongy foam sheet with a scissor, place it to the tap and tie it with a rubber band or any ropes that you can find. And oh, you need to change the sheet at least once a day. Yeah I know it looks very ugly but I do not care la, I will do anything to get my clear skin back LOL.

See? The water does not look turbid at all, eh? And I am sure you can not see the difference between the unfiltered water and the filtered one, both of them look clear without any colors or bad scents, but actually there are a lot of things that we could not see with our naked eyes.

Look at the pictures below that I took after 10 minutes and an hour!
Please do not be surprised and sorry if it looks gross >__<

And this is what the foam sheet looks like after a day!
Eww what the heck is that yellowy thingy?!? OMG o__O
Aghh I use this water to wash my face, body, hair, to brush my teeth, and I also use this water to wash my dishes! What the.. asdfghjkl.. these are so gross yuck!

Please note that this method does not work to filter your water completely, and I am sure there are still a lot of harmful bacterias, chemicals, and other things that happen in the environment around us. But we can prevent further breakout with a few ways like what I usually do.. I have been boiling some tap water and cool it down in the fridge before I use it to rinse my face in the last step, and I highly recommend you to apply toner after you wash your face in the morning and night before you go to sleep. Psst.. it really helps me a lot! And it would be much better if you have a water filter la~

For those who live in Indonesia, what do you usually do to deal with the turbid water?
And for those who live in other countries, have you ever experienced the turbidity in your country? Please share your stories with me, I would love to hear them ^^

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day, girls~

See ya~

  5. Wow! I've seen that foamy cloth thing on the tap in a lot of my friends houses. But I never knew it could break you out! I usually break out a lot anyway, but I think Australian water is pretty clean. :) That's just gross though! :O

  6. Oh my god Ade!!! O.......O Do you drink this water too or only bottled water? At first when I read your post title I thought "how can tap water make you break out?" But this looks sooo bad and dirty! I feel so bad for you =( why is the water so bad there? Doesn't the government care if people get sick? That could ruin your clothes too, right? Please be careful especially if brushing your teeth with this water--there are lots of water-born parasites that can make you super sick.

I actually use a special camping filter when I have to drink bad water like this. It has a micropore system that filters out parasites, bacteria, and even viruses, and then I boil it just to be sure.

  7. I have noticed that water in different regions can affect my skin... It's annoying really. I'm quite shocked at how much the sponge was able to filter out! O_O

  8. I noticed that sometimes, when I'm in another city my hair looks worse after washing it or my skin doesn't look good and when I come back it looks perfectly fine (when I start using water in the town I live in).
